The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest is a 2.76-million-acre United States National Forest which runs along the Mogollon Rim and the White Mountains in east-central Arizona and extending into the U.S. state of New Mexico.
Casa Malpais, located near Springerville AZ, is the premiere archaeological site in the White Mountains of Arizona. This unique site features an astronomical calendar, a great kiva, ancient stairways, and rock art from the Mogollon culture. Museum features artifacts from Casa Malpais and a video introduction by Hopi and Zuni elders.
Southwest Ranch Pueblo, Formerly known as the Raven Ruin, this 300-room Pueblo located in Apache County was donated to The Archaeological Conservancy by landowners Ruth and Wendell Sherwood in 2003 On the banks of the Little Colorado River, just north of the ruins at Casa Malapais and south of the ruins at Lyman Lake State Park, there is another archaeological site now being professionally investigated.
